To disconnect the previous owner from a pair of AirPods Max and connect them to your own devices, follow these steps:
- Reset the AirPods Max:
Resetting the AirPods Max will remove any association with the previous owner’s Apple ID.
- Charge the AirPods Max for a few minutes using a Lightning cable.
- Locate the Digital Crown and the Noise Control button on the headphones.
- Press and hold both the Digital Crown and the Noise Control button together for 15 seconds (or until the LED indicator flashes amber and then white).
- Check for Activation Lock:
If the AirPods Max were previously linked to an Apple ID, Activation Lock might prevent you from pairing them with your device.
- What is an Activation Lock? This feature is part of Apple’s Find My network and is designed to prevent unauthorized use of lost or stolen devices.
- To resolve Activation Lock:
- Ask the previous owner to remove the AirPods Max from their Apple ID by:
- Logging into their Apple ID account.
- Going to Find Me → Select the AirPods Max → Choose “Remove This Device.”
- Ask the previous owner to remove the AirPods Max from their Apple ID by:
- Pair the AirPods Max with Your Device:
- Bring the AirPods Max close to your device (iPhone, iPad, or Mac).
- Open Bluetooth Settings and ensure Bluetooth is turned on.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to pair the AirPods Max.
- Verify Ownership Transfer:
After resetting, ensure that:
- The AirPods Max shows up as a new device under your Apple ID.
- You can control them in the Find My app (if you enable it).
If you still encounter issues, the AirPods Max may be linked to the previous owner’s Apple ID. In that case, you will need their assistance to disconnect them fully.
